How To Deal With Being Underestimated as an Entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur, startup founder, and mover and shaker, you’ve probably experienced a disproportionate amount of people underestimating you.

As I say in the video below, people can’t seem to fathom the idea that other people might just be extremely effective at what they do. Or they won’t admit it.

Constantly moving into unknown territory, which is, after all, what we do as startup founders, brings on a landslide of negative criticism and question from friends, family, business associates, and acquaintances.

It’s part of the game. But you shouldn’t let it happen to you at extreme levels, and you SHOULD be armed with the knowledge, data, and sources to prove yourself right, when someone questions your intelligence.

Moving into the real grind of your company, eventually you have to then build the organization, scale the organization, and actually (at the very least) show a good amount of revenue coming in. The ultimate proof that you’re right, and the onlookers doubting and underestimating you are wrong, is the success of your venture.

So be that person. Be the entrepreneur that’s companies actually make it. Focus on revenue. Focus on invading your market. Focus on executing the best out of your competition, and please, stop thinking you don’t need to focus on profitability and revenue right now. You will always have to focus on that, if you’re doing it right.

But have an arsenal of data, and examples of how what you’re doing is working, or you’re doing it right, to settle the critical brains of the naysayers that will inevitably try to bark up your tree with their doubts and surface level assertions. That’s how you prove them wrong. And that’s also how you STOP that particular party from questioning your prowess ever again.
